feat. 68 words (whoa) + no-skips november starts tomorrow!
NOTES WITH SPOILERS (click after solving)
Happy Halloween! I’m posting this grid a bit late in the day so I’ll keep my notes short:
Assorted notes on entries/clues
- 34D: If you’re a fan of really bad stand-up (and I mean, *really* bad stand-up), you have to watch this clip from Dropout show “Total Forgiveness.” While I don’t expect solvers to have seen that show, I think enough context was provided in the clue for IRA Glass’s name to be inferrable.
- 27D: ILHAN was a total lifesaver in putting this puzzle together. Working with themer lengths of 9/12/9/12/9 is very hard to pull off, and this grid initially looked very segmented and chunky (see grid below). It was only when I realized ILHAN could fill the I?H?N spot at 27-Down, did this puzzle come together in a way that I liked.
- 38D/39D: YOW MING is clearly the Halloween-themed alter ego of Yao Ming. Alright, I’ll see myself out 🙂
OoOoOoOoH, it’s the scariest time of year! That time when zombies awaken from their slumber and vampires awaken from their slumber. Everywhere, werewolves are awakening from their slumber and ghouls are awakening from their slumber. You better not turn your back to any dark corners this Hallow’s Eve, or you might end up in the grip of a mummy whose slumber has been newly awakened from. Whether you’re celebrating Halloween for the tricks or the treats, remember one thing: keep quiet after 9 PM because your neighbours will be asleep.
This puzzle is about one of the scariest things I could think of this Halloween: late capitalism. In all seriousness, I think this puzzle is real goofy. Enjoy! I’ll see y’all tomorrow for the start of No-Skips November.
Enjoy the puz! Also: feel free to share the link, comment below if you like the puzzle, and check out my Patreon!
